Climate and environmental protection.

Air travel emits emissions that contribute to climate change and causes noise, which can have consequences for people living in the direct vicinity of airports. To make flying more sustainable, the industry is investing billions in climate and noise protection. Together with Deutsche Bahn, the industry is working to shift domestic air travel to rail and to improve intermodality – that is, the interaction between different modes of transport.

What we are doing about it …

Climate Protection Airplanes burn kerosene during their flights, releasing emissions that impact the climate. To make climate-neutral flying possible, our companies are taking concrete measures.

Aircraft Noise Pollution The aviation industry is working to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on the population. Through quieter engines, innovative aircraft technologies, and optimized takeoff and landing procedures, airplanes are becoming increasingly quieter.

Intermodality The German aviation industry aims to reduce the share of CO₂ emissions from domestic air traffic. For this reason, it has developed an action plan with the railway industry to shift more domestic air traffic to rail.
